On 11 September, the Polish Armament Agency announced the receipt of a third delivery of M1A2 SEPv3 Abrams tanks supplied by the United States. The shipment also included a new batch of technical support vehicles.
The delivery comprises 38 tanks, which will join the 47 vehicles already supplied this year. In addition, 14 M88A2 HERCULES recovery vehicles were delivered, described as an important component of the Polish Army’s armoured units.
The intergovernmental Letter of Offer and Acceptance (LOA) agreement for the purchase of 250 M1A2 SEPv3 Abrams tanks was approved on 5 April 2022. Alongside these, the United States is to deliver 26 M88A2 HERCULES vehicles and 17 M1074 JAB assault bridges, with deliveries scheduled for 2025–26.
Another contract for further support vehicles is expected to be signed later this year, with future purchases also under consideration. In July 2025, the Armament Agency signed an annex expanding the order to include 25 M1150 ABV engineer vehicles, with deliveries to be completed by 2029.
In total, the Polish Armed Forces will operate 366 Abrams tanks, including 250 SEPv3 and 116 used M1A1FEP units delivered by 2024. These have been accompanied by 12 M88A2 HERCULES, eight M1074 JAB bridges, six M577 command vehicles, 26 HMMWV workshop-configured vehicles and two mobile diagnostic centres.
The United States will also provide ammunition and conduct training and logistical support as part of the agreements.
