India has successfully test-fired its Agni-4 medium-range ballistic missile from the Integrated Test Range at Chandipur in Odisha, the Ministry of Defence said.

The launch, conducted under the aegis of the Strategic Forces Command, validated the missile’s operational and technical parameters, according to a defence ministry official cited by The Times of India.

The latest test follows a previous successful Agni-4 launch in September 2024. The Agni series comprises nuclear-capable, surface-to-surface ballistic missiles developed by India.

The test comes as India continues to develop and test a range of long-range strike systems. In April 2024, the country conducted a flight test of the Agni-Prime, a newer-generation ballistic missile, in a trial jointly overseen by the Strategic Forces Command and the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO).

More recently, in June, the DRDO successfully flight-tested the indigenously developed Long Range Land Attack Cruise Missile (LRLACM) from Dr APJ Abdul Kalam Island off the Odisha coast.

The LLACM test met all stated mission objectives, according to the defence ministry, validating key technologies and demonstrating India’s growing long-range precision-strike capabilities.

Together, the tests highlight India’s continued efforts to expand and modernize its strategic missile and long-range strike capabilities.
