BAE Systems and Rheinmetall to integrate 120mm L44A1 low recoil gun onto latest CV90120 variant

BAE Systems Hägglunds has signed an agreement with Rheinmetall Weapon and Ammunition to integrate the 120mm L44A1 Low Recoil (LR) gun system onto the latest CV90120 combat vehicle. The collaboration combines the expertise of both companies to meet evolving battlefield requirements with a powerful and mobile solution.

The upgraded CV90120 will be based on the CV90MkIV chassis and will feature a new engine, heavy-duty transmission, enhanced electronic architecture, active damping, and an active protection system. It offers increased strategic and tactical mobility while delivering the firepower of a modern main battle tank at lower cost.

“Our customers will benefit from the combined expertise and resources of our two companies, resulting in a solution that offers enhanced firepower, protection, and mobility – a winning combination on the modern battlefield,” said Tarkan Turkcan, CV90 platform director. The integration also allows armies already using the CV90 Infantry Fighting Vehicle to benefit from shared training and spare parts across platforms.

Rheinmetall’s 120mm L44A1 LR gun is compatible with all NATO-standard 120mm rounds, including Rheinmetall’s DM11 3-mode programmable high-explosive (HE) and enhanced kinetic energy (KE) rounds. The high-pressure system offers outstanding performance and advanced capability for future combat scenarios.

BAE Systems Hägglunds has delivered over 1,400 CV90 vehicles in 17 variants to 10 European nations through the CV90 User Group. The CV90 platform has a proven track record in global operations, including missions under UN and NATO command.
